Medical breakthrough: Paraplegic man walks with own legs again

“A man who lost the use of his legs to a spinal cord injury has walked again after scientists rerouted signals from his brain to electrodes on his knees. The 26-year-old American has used a wheelchair for five years after an accident left him paralysed from the waist down. Doctors said he was the first person with paraplegia caused by a spinal injury to walk without relying on robotic limbs that are controlled manually.

The man walked a 3.5-metre course after being fitted with an electrode cap that picks up brain waves and beams them wirelessly to a computer, which decipher the waves as an intention to stand still or walk. The relevant command is then sent to a microcontroller on the man’s belt, and on to nerves that trigger muscles to move the legs.

The patient needed intensive training to generate recognisable walking signals in his brain, and to learn how to use the device to put one foot in front of the other. He also needed extensive physical training to build up the muscle tone in his legs.

“Even after years of paralysis, the brain can still generate robust brain waves that can be harnessed to enable basic walking,” said Dr An Do at the University of California at Irvine, who co-led the proof-of-concept study. “We showed that you can restore intuitive, brain-controlled walking after a complete spinal cord injury. This non-invasive system for leg muscle stimulation is a promising method and is an advance on our current brain-controlled systems, which use virtual reality or a robotic exoskeleton.”

The man learned to produce the right brain signals by moving an avatar around a virtual environment while he was sitting down wearing the cap, which has a built-in electroencephalogram (EEG) that monitors brain waves. When he had made sufficient progress, he practised walking for real while suspended 5cm above the ground, so that he could move his legs freely without having to support his weight. On the patient’s 20th session, he used the system to walk on the ground, helped by a walking frame that prevented him from falling over. Over the 19-week course, he learned better to control the device and so the movement of his legs. Rather than having a precise control of each leg, the patient activates the system with a general concept of walking, Do told Radio 4’s Today programme on Thursday. “It’s not so much that he’s thinking ‘move the right leg and than move the left leg’,” he said. “What happens is that the computer system detects when the brain waves change from a state of not walking into a state of walking.

“When the computer detects that a person is walking, based on these brain waves, it turns on the electrical stimulator, which starts creating muscle contractions in the right leg first, and then the left leg; right leg, left leg. And then it keeps on doing this automatically until he stops thinking about walking, then it shuts it off and keeps him in a standing position. So really he has the control of a general concept of walk or not walk.”

A spinal cord injury severs the nerves that carry signals from the brain to the limbs. The nerves do not grow back and often scar tissue forms at the site of the damage. The proof-of-concept device shows the potential for computerised systems that can read signals from the brain, bypass damaged areas, and feed them back into the healthy nerves that control the muscles for walking.

Researchers at the lab stressed that they had only tested the brain-computer interface on one patient and that many more patients would be needed for trials before they could assess its more general usefulness for people with paraplegia. Details of the study are reported in the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation.

If the device works well in others, the electrode cap could eventually be swapped for a hidden implant that monitors brain signals from beneath the skull.

Zoran Nenadic, a colleague of Do’s at Irvine, said: “We hope that an implant could achieve an even greater level of prosthesis control, because brain waves are recorded with higher quality. In addition, such an implant could deliver sensation back to the brain, enabling the user to feel their legs.”

In their report, the scientists describe how the patient was able to conduct a “light conversation” with the test team while attempting to walk. The scientists have a number of major hurdles to overcome before the device can be used to help paraplegics walk freely. In laboratory tests, the computer got confused when the patient was walking on the ground, potentially because brain signals for walking became mixed up with others for balance and stabilisation.

Another problem is the bulk of the system, which will need to be solved with smaller, implantable devices. Writing in the journal, the researchers say: “The cumbersome nature of the current noninvasive system makes its adoption for restoration of overground walking unlikely ( via ). “This limitation can potentially be addressed by a fully implantable brain-computer interface system, which can be envisioned to employ invasively recorded neural signals.”” copied.


Edible double membrane water bottle to cause a splash at EU sustainability awards

An edible alternative to plastic water bottles made from seaweed has topped the UK round of an EU competition for new, more sustainable products.

The new spherical form of packaging, called Ooho and described by its makers as “water you can eat”, is biodegradeable, hygenic and costs 1p per unit to make. It is made chiefly from calcium chloride and a seaweed derivative called sodium alginate.

Ooho won the joint award with Alchemie Technologie, who have created a digital way of dispensing dye for the textile industry. Clothes are dyed selectively using a product similar to an industrial inkjet printer, replacing the full immersion process used currently, which consumes vast quantities of chemicals, water and heat.

Both companies take home €20,000 of investment from the competition run by Climate KIC, created by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the EU body tasked with galvanising the transformation to a sustainable economy. They will go on to compete against entrepreneurs from across Europe.

With global sales of packaged water hitting 223bn litres this year, Ian Ellerington, Director of Science and Innovation at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change and one of the judges of the competition, told the Guardian: “[Ooho] is a good replacement packaging that would be really widely applicable across lots of different products. The potential for packaging reduction is really high for one of the petroleum products used across the world.”

Ooho designer Pierre Paslier, described the product as like a “man-made fruit”, which uses a double membrane to contain water. To carry larger quantities of water, a number of the capsules can be packed into a larger and thicker skin: much like an orange.

He told the Guardian: “At the end of the day you don’t have to eat it. But the edible part shows how natural it is. People are really enthusiastic about the fact that you can create a material for packaging matter that is so harmless that you can eat it.”

He added: “So many things are wrong about plastic bottles: the time they take to decompose, the amount of energy that goes into making them and the fact we are using more and more.” Investors are showing an increasing interest in clean technologies, with the global market soaring to £205bn ($310bn) in 2014, a 16% increase. In June, the world’s richest man and Microsoft founder Bill Gates pledged to invest $2bn in breakthrough renewable technologies. Another finalist presented a cloud-based software system that enables the National Grid to pay people not to use energy at times of peak demand.

It is designed to work with household water boilers, solar powered batteries, electric vehicles or the back-up power supplies used by many businesses for appliances from computers to traffic lights. They are using the technology to work with electric car company Tesla to help make their home power storage batteries more financially viable for consumers. Graham Oakes CEO and founder of Upside Energy said the solution is “a win for just about everybody except the coal miners.”

The company believes the product will be on the market by 2017, with pilot schemes planned for next year. They are aiming to save 500MW of battery hours by 2025, equivalent to 1% of peak load in winter or creating a medium-sized power station. Oakes says the system works automatically and will “help people to do the right thing without having to change their behaviour”. Other finalists presented a water purifier that captures energy from solar panels, an index that allows investors to track their financial exposure to carbon and a process that uses bio tanks to create paper from waste straw instead of trees. The Art of Sun-Gazing: NASA confirms that we can ‘Eat The Sun’

The title may have taken you off guard, but like all the other things in life you have to read between the lines and decipher the real meaning that is evident here.

To start, let us focus our attention on a fairly ancient practice known as Sun-gazing, which has been practiced all over the world in various cultures and religions. Sun gazing, also known as the art of eating the sun, is very much like it sounds. It basically involves staring at the sun during particular periods of time when the UV radiations being emitted from the sun are lowest during the day. One of the main glands that are activated by this process is the pineal gland, which has also been called the vestigial third eye.

But in the end, the most important fact to remember from this whole practice is that the beautiful morning sun, the complacent evening sun and the relentless afternoon sun are all the same celestial body and not three different entities.

The Venus Project: One World, No Government. Could It Work?

“Architectural designer and futurist, Jacque Fresco, is considered an inspiration by many for his innovative ideas and his blueprint for a sustainable society and planet. It is known as the Venus Project. While some of his ideas are considered radical and far-fetched, we are now reaching a point in technology where it may be time for a reappraisal.

The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable, but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalogue of problems inherent in today’s world. Today many people believe what is needed is a higher sense of ethical standards and the enactment of international laws to assure a sustainable global society.

Fresco’s idea advocates for a society that runs on socio-cooperation, and uses science and the advancement of technology in clean and efficient ways. He calls this system a “resource-based economy”, and it would involve reconstructing the entire planet’s infrastructure. The planet would need to work together as one, “eliminating the false borders that separate continents and countries and looking at our planet as an open trading highway system.”




Because our current system is based on mass consumerism, which promotes environmental neglect, we are not living in a sustainable society, and it’s only a matter of time before we drain the planet of its resources. Fresco suggests that the answer is to automate as much as possible in the shortest period of time. By doing so, we can use technology to produce and distribute resources for the entire world in a clean and efficient manner. In this way, technology can work for everyone.

Two common concerns at this point are whether or not there would be enough resources for everyone, and whether or not mass automation will have a negative effect on the job market. The first thing to take into consideration is that the Venus Project would terminate the need for a monetary system, thereby having no effect on the job market, and if we can get to a point where the level of production is high enough (which Fresco claims is more than possible), scarcity will no longer exist.

The theory is that with most jobs automated, and resources in abundance, the average person will only have to work a couple hours a day, and they would have everything they could possibly need.

Fresco also suggests that computers can be used to benefit mankind by using a global intelligence network to oversee things such as the production and distribution of goods, and to ensure there would be no shortages or overruns of resources. “Decisions being made in this innovative society would be based around the needs of the people and the conservation of the planet, not corporate interests.” Our corporate-run society uses the monetary system to stress a need for vast resources that don’t have to be used—it promotes waste.

Fresco has numerous ideas for this new system, all of which are outlined in the documentary provided at the bottom of this page. From clean, renewable energy, to transportation, it seems Fresco has thought of nearly everything.

Fresco’s system would also eliminate the need for a government. As of yet, “none of the world’s economic systems—socialism, communism, fascism, or the free enterprise system—have eliminated the problems of elitism, nationalism, racism, and most of all scarcity.” These government-run systems are centered primarily on economic disparity.

When money is used to regulate and distribute resources for profit, people and nations are out for themselves. They will seek advantage at any cost. They do this by maintaining a competitive edge, or through military intervention. War represents the supreme failure of nations to resolve their differences. From a strictly pragmatic standpoint, it is the most inefficient waste of lives and resources ever conceived.

Fresco believes that people are good at heart, and that negative ideals are taught. It is his belief that when people are provided with everything they need, from the necessities required to survive, to the things that give us pleasure, the need for greed and corruption evaporates. There is no need for a governing body or military in a world where everyone is provided for. There is no need for police if greed and desperation, and ultimately crime, are not present.

In the world Fresco is suggesting, technology can be used to advance mankind in positive ways. Rather than using science to advance our weapons technology, we can concentrate on the true necessities, such as the medical field.

Fresco believes that with medical care available to all, as well as advancements in technology, those conditions and disorders that cause violent reactions in people can be detected and treated from an early age, without the need for a prison system. This has nothing to do with those who want to form an elite world order with themselves and large corporations in control and the rest of the world subservient to them. On the contrary, a global resource-based economy enables all people to reach their highest potential where they can thrive and grow in a society that works on their behalf.

A society that protects and preserves the environment as well—one that understands we are a part of nature, not separate from it.

There have been a few arguments against the Venus Project, with some even claiming that Scientology, Hitler, Mao, and Stalin all pale in comparison. This mainly seems to be due to the fact that there would be no need for currency, police, prison systems, or a government in Fresco’s vision. Some have commented that a system such as the one Fresco is suggesting would eliminate competition, and without competition humans would lose their creativity and imagination.

It should be noted that the desire for competition is not a human trait, but rather a cultural trait, and there was no direct link found between competition and the ability to create or imagine: Mainstream culture in the United States emphasizes assertiveness and individuality, so many Westerners are competitive and reluctant to give in to others. In more communal societies, people have less individualistic perspectives and are less likely to focus on winning conflicts (Ting-Toomey, 1991; Van Yperen & Buunk, 1991). Similarly, in Japan and many other Asian cultures, open disagreement is strongly condemned (Gangwish, 1999). Great effort is made to avoid winning at the cost of causing another person to lose face. In Japanese sports, the ideal is not for one team to win but for a tie to occur so that neither team loses face. When there is to be a winner, Japanese athletes try to win by only a slim margin so that the losing team is not humiliated (“American Games, Japanese Rules,” cited in Ferrante, 2006). (Wood, 2013). The most common argument, however, is that the Venus Project is another form of communism or socialism, though it appears to be difficult for skeptics to make a solid connection. For example in one critic’s study it was noted that the Venus Project opposes the Leninist Bolshevik brand of communism, and openly rejects the George Sorel approach of “ongoing blood riots and violence”, therefore meaning that the Venus Project is not a form of revolutionary communism. A connection was immediately made afterwards to socialism though, due to the fact Fresco’s system rejects police, prisons, and military. In a quote from Ludwig von Mises’s 1947 work entitled Planned Chaos: “The state will ‘wither away’. In the socialist commonwealth of the future there will be neither judges and policemen nor prisons and gallows.” The critic also states this does not conclusively prove that the Venus Project is socialist. There are other similar comparisons made between the Venus Project and communism, as well as socialism, however these details seem minute in comparison to the major differences. When asked directly how Jacque Fresco’s system compares to communism, those at the Venus Project responded: Communism being similar to a resource-based economy or the Venus Project is an erroneous concept. Communism has money, banks, armies, police, prisons, charismatic personalities, social stratification, and is managed by appointed leaders. The Venus Project’s aim is to surpass the need for the use of money. Police, prisons and the military would no longer be necessary when goods, services, healthcare, and education are available to all people. In a report from Collective-Evolution: Some argue that Jacque Fresco’s plans are idealistic and crazy, and that our world is too far away from such a utopia. However, if we take a moment to observe our current state, it is easy to see that people are not content with the way the world is currently run. SAUDI ARABIA: Massive Tent city for 3,000,000 people sits empty… whilst refugees flood Europe

Mina is a small city located inside a low lying valley in the province of Makkh, in western Saudi Arabia, about 8 km to the east of the Holy city of Mecca. Inside the 20 square km valley, tents cover every open space, as far as the eye can see, neatly arranged, row after row. It is in these tents Hajj pilgrims stay overnight during the five days of each Haj season. For the rest of the year, Mina remains pretty much deserted.

There are more than 100,000 air-conditioned tents in Mina providing temporary accommodation to 3 million pilgrims. The tents measure 8 meters by 8 meters and are constructed of fiberglass coated with Teflon in order to ensure high resistance to fire. Originally pilgrims brought their own tents which they would erect in the flat plains of Mina. After Hajj is over, the tents would be dismantled, everything packed and taken back. Then sometime in the 1990s, the Saudi government installed permanent cotton tents relieving pilgrims of the burden of having to carry their own camping equipment. But after a massive fire that swept through the tent city killing nearly 350 pilgrims in 1997, the current permanent fire-proof city was built.


The tents are segregated into several camps, each of which possesses its own exterior wall, and is connected to other camps by pathways. Each camp is equipped with a kitchen, bathrooms, and ablution facilities. Every tent is color-coded by country and numbered, and all the haajis are supposed to have badges with their color and number on it, in case they get lost. In the last two years, the city underwent a massive change with the government investing billions of riyals into many infrastructural projects to ease the daunting and physically demanding rituals of the annual pilgrimage. A comprehensive fire safety network consisting of heat-sensitive water sprinkler are linked to an alarm system was implemented to prevent repeat the tragedy of 1997. ( via )” copied.

Experiencing a Dark Night Of The Soul? Here’s What To Expect

From a spiritual point of view, the attainment of reaching the level of a Dark Night of the Soul is nothing to be sneezed at – in order to get there you’ve certainly had to earn your spiritual stripes.

However, hardly anything in life comes easily and without effort, and the price for reaching this level of spiritual achievement is the difficulty and complexity of the lessons that will populate your Dark Night of the Soul.

While it’s true there is no ordering to spiritual lessons, it has been my experience that for many people the first lesson of consciousness is usually responsibility=power. Simply put, the responsibility=power life lesson says: what I take responsibility for in my life I can control and move in any direction I want, because when I take responsibility for having created it, then I have all the resources and abilities I need to create something different. In a Dark Night of the Soul, this belief is going to be challenged to its utmost limits. You will push and push and all doors will be closed to you.

The things you normally do to get stuff working won’t seem to work at all – until you give up hope and stop doing them, when everything in your life will fall apart. You’re going to be pushing ten times as hard for 10% of the results, if that much. Eventually there’s going to come a point where you understand that responsibility does not always equal power, and if you don’t realise it, you are going to burn yourself out trying to get stuff to move and work. So the responsibility and power lesson for you this time will be: you are not responsible for everything, you cannot control everything: you have to surrender and let go and wait it out patiently.

After years and years of monitoring your mind, choosing every thought and action carefully, and driving things in the direction you need and want them to go, surrender and patience are going to be bitter pills to swallow.

Loving Person, Loving World As Ken Keyes Jr says in his Handbook of Higher Consciousness: A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world.

This is usually true: what people around us show us is a reflection of ourselves. Until you reach a Trial by Fire that is. Now for no reason at all you’re alienated, isolated, alone and abandoned.

The people you would usually reach out to aren’t there; the people who would usually reach out to you, don’t. Those you can normally rely on for help won’t be around or available, and come the time you really need someone to reach out to, your communication systems and devices will just suddenly stop working: emails won’t send, wifi will die, cell signal will be non-existent.

Nobody can go through this for you – and nobody can actually go through this with you. You will be isolated and removed from help – the very point of this lesson is to allow you to see yourself without consolation or help or assistance.

This lesson’s going to hurt, because it’s going to attack your self worth. You will question whether people like you, whether they want to be around you, whether you have anything of any worth to offer the world.

When everything gets broken down that often includes the good we think about ourselves, and in order for us to challenge and change those beliefs we have to see even our good opinions from the opposite point of view. So very often, you come back around to believing in those qualities and characteristics you hold again, but first you have to face a period of incredible doubt.

There are two ways that a Dark Night of the Soul hurts you where it hurts most: first by attacking your hopes and dreams, and secondly by going straight after what is most important to you in the world.

Hope is an amazing human ability, because it enables us to forgive, release, move on, be tenacious, be resilient, try and believe again. A Dark Night of the Soul will challenge your faith and hope by holding you down for a very long time period of time – often measured in years.

When you’re held down for a long time and you just don’t see movement or results, and you’re plagued by incident after incident of bad luck, it challenges your very sense of hope. Take this far enough, and you will stop hoping and dreaming altogether, because you lose faith that you will ever see results; you almost become to scared to reach out and dream, for fear of being rejected and overlooked yet again.

The second way that a Dark Night of the Soul attacks you where it hurts the most is by attacking you in an area of your life that is really crucial for you.

For some people success is everything, for others wealth is at the top of their pile. Others see the pinnacle of success as a happy romantic relationship, while some are desperate to have a family. Whatever your area of real importance is, you can rest assured that your main lesson will be in that area of your life.

The point of this lesson is to break us down completely, so that all the old is gone: the simplest way to do that is by attacking us where we are most vulnerable, the places that are most important to us, so that the most damage is done and we have the greatest opportunity for revelation and insight.



The last really big challenge for many spiritual people is now time – a concept that we’ve all worked hard to make reality in our lives.

Yes, when you get it right, now time is amazing. All your energy and effort is pulled out of the past and future and your focus is right here, right now. It allows you to do amazing things with your mind and time and resources. In a Dark Night of the Soul however, now time can be your worst enemy.

The thing about now time is that all your focus is right here, right now: so it almost feels like this is the only moment in time. You forget that things were good in the past, that things can and do change, that the wheel will always turn, If you’re experiencing a Dark Night of the Soul, then just hang in there.

It’s an honor to be where you are, and recognition of what you’ve achieved on a spiritual level – it just feels like hell because you’re so completely invested in the moment. This too shall pass – and when it does, it will feel like the happiness has been there forever too.

Contrary to popular opinion, obesity comes in many different shapes, not just “round” or “squishy”. Regardless of the shape it comes in, obesity is a huge and growing problem (no pun intended). Proof That The Cancer Industry Doesn’t Want a Cure

“A safe and effective cure for cancer has been discovered with a drug that was once used for unusual metabolic problems. Yet, the cancer industry shows no interest with following up on dichloroacetate (DCA) research from University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, reported in 2007. That’s because DCA is no longer patented. (1)

That research also confirmed cancer as a metabolic malfunction, not a weird mutation of cells often explained away as a genetic issue. But the medical mafia doesn’t want you to hear about it. But it confirms what most alternative cancer therapists already know.


Since Nixon declared the “war on cancer” in the 1970s, the cancer industry has succeeded with raising money for researching very expensive chemo substances at $50,000 to $100,000 per round or more for toxic therapies that rarely work. (2)

Explaining DCA research results Evangelos Michelakis and the Alberta University research team tested DCA on human cancer cells outside the body and in cancerous mice with profound success. DCA was once used for unusual metabolic disorders. The worst side effects, which rarely occur, include some numbness and an affected gait.

The mice were fed DCA in water, and in weeks they had remarkable tumor shrinkage. This indicates DCA can be taken orally. DCA works by restoring the cells’ mitochondria. Michelakis and his team had discovered that the mitochondria in cancer cells are not permanently damaged and irreparable. This is what mainstream medicine thinks. With mitochondria malfunctioning, cancer cells use glucose fermentation for survival energy. This fermentation occurs when glycolysis (glucose conversion) occurs in an anaerobic cellular environment, which can be created by benign tumor masses, toxins, and low pH levels. DCA restores mitochondria in cells to make them function properly. Another function of normal mitochondria is signaling apoptosis, or cellular self destruction. Normal cells die and become replaced constantly. But with cancer cells, the apoptosis signal is nullified, making cancer cells “immortal.” (3)

The Alberta University researchers also realized that glycolysis fermentation in cancer cells produces lactic acid. The lactic acid breaks down the collagen holding those cells together in a tumor. This allows cancer cells to easily break away from a tumor shrinking with mainstream therapies. The researchers reasoned this is why cancer metastasizes or spreads to different parts of the body or reappears after remission from chemo. Tragic hypocrisy Alternative cancer therapies have little or no problem with metastatic cancer or even cancer reoccurring after remission. Most alternative cancers simply cure cancers completely. DCA offers the cancer industry an opportunity to come up with a pharmaceutical cure that is much cheaper and safer than their current standard of care. Yet the cancer industry is ignoring this opportunity. Instead, DCA is a homeless orphan begging for research funds to avoid legal issues with off label use on cancer. (4)”.

The medical mafia has created a matrix that demands big bucks to make big bucks for sick care instead of curing. Everyone in on the scam makes out financially. Brazilian Wasp Venom Kills Cancer Cells, But Not Healthy Cells

“Wasps get their fair share of bad press. They have painful stingers, and they’re not as useful (or cute) to us as bees. However, their time to step in the spotlight may be just around the corner: Their venom has been shown to attack cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone.

The cancer-targeting toxin in the wasp is called MP1 (Polybia-MP1) and until now, how it selectively eliminates cancer cells was unknown. According to new research, it exploits the atypical arrangement of fats, or lipids, in cancer cell membranes. Their abnormal distribution creates weak points where the toxin can interact with the lipids, which ultimately pokes gaping holes in the membrane. These are sufficiently large for essential molecules to start leaking out, like proteins, which the cell cannot function without.

The wasp responsible for producing this toxin is the Polybia paulista. The toxin has so far been tested on model membranes and examined using a broad range of imaging techniques. You can see the team’s research results in the Biophysical Journal.

“Cancer therapies that attack the lipid composition of the cell membrane would be an entirely new class of anticancer drugs,” said Paul Beales from the University of Leeds and co-author of the study. “This could be useful in developing new combination therapies, where multiple drugs are used simultaneously to treat a cancer by attacking different parts of the cancer cells at the same time.”

In healthy cell membranes, the inner layer (facing the inside of the cell) is packed with phospholipids, including PS (phosphatidylserine) and PE (phosphatidylethanolamine). However, in cancer cells, PS and PE are located on the outer layer of the cell membrane, facing the opposite way.

To test the different effects of PS and PE’s presence on a cell, the scientists examined how the MP1 interacted with model membranes infused with PE and/or PS. The presence of each phospholipid had a destructive effect on the cells. PS increased the chance of MP1 binding to the membrane by a factor of seven to eight. The presence of PE inflated the size of the holes created by the MP1 by a factor 20 to 30.

“Formed in only seconds, these large pores are big enough to allow critical molecules such as RNA and proteins to easily escape cells,” said João Ruggiero Neto from São Paulo State University and co-author of the study.

“The dramatic enhancement of the permeabilization induced by the peptide in the presence of PE and the dimensions of the pores in these membranes was surprising.”

The next stage for this research is to adjust the amino acid sequence of MP1 to see what gives it its selective properties, and to try and refine them.

“Understanding the mechanism of action of this peptide will help in translational studies to further assess the potential for this peptide to be used in medicine,” Beales says.

“As it has been shown to be selective to cancer cells and non-toxic to normal cells in the lab, this peptide has the potential to be safe, but further work would be required to prove that.” ( via )” copied.
